Back To School 2010

7 Jul

How to survive it and save money at the same time.

Summer is still in full swing, birds are chirping, barbecues are smoking, music is in the air and the kids are playing. Yet, August is on the horizon and soon it will be back-to-school!

That means getting the supply lists, books, clothes, shoes, pencils, pens, calculators, back-packs, rulers, ect. hopefully without breaking the bank-account. (Or our necks while trying to get out of the stores!)

Here are a couple helpful tips for making it through this season.

Tip #1 Buy online!

It’s almost a no-brainer. Why fight the crowd and deal with the 800+ aggravated mom’s storming through the walmart isles when you can shop for the usual items at home.

Plus, you can often find better deals online since you can buy direct and get free shipping almost always. I will be posting good back-to-school deals that I find as I surf around to help you save.

Tip #2 Don’t wait

You don’t have to wait until day #1 of school for your kids to bring home a school supply list. Most parents will usually always wait for the supply list to be given out before they even think about shopping.

Why wait when we already know the basics? #2 pencils, 3 ring binder, water biased markers, erasers, back-pack, colored pencils, ect.

You already know those will be on there, so no reason to wait. You would be better off buying those now, then when your child brings home a supply list, you will only need a couple things and you can leave the walmart rat race to the sea of aggravated parents.

Here are some deals I’m finding already… (more soon)

2 Free Game Downloads

3 Jul

Ok, so I like to play online games just as much as the next guy (or girl).

I’m usually playing free flash and shockwave games. One of my all time favorite games is SAS Zombie Assault. It’s pretty popular.

But we all know the real cool ones are the full version, pay and download ones.

I know that none of us want to pay for a game that we aren’t sure we will like.

Here’s how to get 2 full version games for free. (5 steps)

I found a website called that is offering a 30 day trial, plus two games free.

I already know what you’re thinking, do I need a credit card? Well the answer is yes, but don’t let that scare you. I won’t ever recommend anything I haven’t already done myself. This is totally free. No risk.

(you can use a pre-paid green dot card too!)

(Step 1) Click the link I posted at the bottom of the page

(Step 2) on the website, click where it says “free trial blah blah”

(Step 3) Fill in your info and sign up for the trial

(If you don’t have a credit card, you can get a green dot card from walmart or walgreens for like 3 or 4 dollars. they are perfect for ordering stuff online.)

(Step 4) After you’ve signed up, download two games that you think are awesome lol.

(Step 5) When downloads are complete, unsubscribe to the service if you don’t wish to keep it.

Or you can finish the trial and play other games, even keep the subscription if you like it.

That’s all folks. You just got two full version awesome downloadable games for FREE! Boohyeah!

The Great American Past-time

2 Jul

Eh, not so much anymore..

Now that is more like it!!

Why go outside and do so much strenuous physical activity when we can sit in the Ac, suck down some sugary cola, and go back to the early 1900’s and pop some zombified nazis?

call of duty w.a.w nazi zombies

So many options these days, Nintendo Wii, PS3, xBox, Pc, Handhelds of all sorts. Personally, I am mostly a PC gamer myself.

I thought it was blog worthy that SCEA just dropped the price of the new PS3 slim down to a decent, $300.00! ($250.00 on some sites) If you look out for a good package deal you can come across one with two controllers and some free games.

I know what I’m getting soon!

No Bang For My Buck

2 Jul

At least not in my state.

I’ve lived in the Midwestern state of Illinois for nearly my entire life. During my time in the military, I’ve had the chance to live in other states such as, California, West Virginia, and Tennessee. I have to say that this is my least favorite state to live in.

July 2011 has just begun. That means in a few days some 307,000,000 Americans will be celebrating our nation’s birth.  We all usually do the same thing, have a cookout, drink beer, watch the city fireworks, yet the real fun part has always been lighting our own fireworks at home.

Which is pretty awesome and all, but I’m here in Illinois where I can’t even celebrate our nations birthday with a sparkler!

You heard me correctly. Apparently, you can no longer even buy sparklers in Illinois.

The Fireworks Use Act (Act) expressly excludes the following novelty fireworks from the
definition of Consumer Fireworks, 425 ILCS 35/1:

• snake or glow worm pellets;
• smoke devices;
• trick noisemakers known as “party poppers”, “booby traps”, “snappers”, “trick matches”,
“cigarette loads”, and “auto burglar alarms”;
• sparklers;

Wow, not even snappers or party poppers? Majorly lame I say.

However, it is this sort of lame legislation that gives us our widely practiced, unnofficial 4th of july tradition…..
